Knight/NEA Community Arts Journalism ChallengeTogether with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the NEA co-managed an eight-city competition seeking new models for local arts journalism in the digital age. The Knight/NEA Community Arts Journalism Challenge seeks to rethink how traditional media systems function, harnessing the latest tools and technology to make the transition to the new information environment. Winners of the competition were announced on October 10, 2011, and was webcast live (click link in the sidebar). For more information, visit the initiative web site. As part of this initiative, the NEA has produced a series of guest posts on its blog that explore different elements of the conversation. Starting with a launch post featuring Joan Shigekawa, NEA Senior Deputy Chairman and Dennis Scholl, Vice President for Arts at the Knight Foundation talking about the initiative, other journalists and artists chime in including Rainey Knudson, founder and director of Glasstire; Juan Devis, director of production and program development, KCET; and Chad Bauman, director of communications, Arena Stage.
