ARTS/SCIENCE/TECHNOLOGY PROJECTS IN ART WORKS
Recent NEA grants provide examples of arts, science, and technology projects
- Chez Bushwick in Brooklyn, New York, received a $20,000 grant through the NEA’s dance discipline to support the creation and presentation of AEON. The work will be based on research in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing and will feature illusions through movement, visual, and sound design, and lighting.
- Dallas Opera in Dallas, Texas received a $30,000 grant through the opera discipline to support performances of Tod Machover and Robert Pinsky’s Death and the Powers, developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab.
- Parallel Studios in Santa Fe, New Mexico received a $30,000 grant through the media arts discipline to support currents 2013. To be held in June 2013 and presented at El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe, this event will include video art, single- and multi-channel installations, Web art, gaming, sound installations, and multimedia performances.
- Stanford University in Stanford, California, received a $32,500 grant through the NEA’s music discipline to support commissioning and performances of works by composer Jonathan Berger, composer and performer Laurie Anderson with Kronos Quartet, and composer Steve Reich with Alarm Will Sound. The two chamber opera works will feature digital processing to create electro-acoustic interludes and illusory aural spaces.
- Underground Railway Puppets & Actors in Cambridge, Massachusetts, received a $10,000 grant through the NEA’s theater and musical theater discipline to support the development and production of author/physicist Alan Lightman’s play Mr g: A Novel about the Creation.
- University of North Carolina at Wilmington received a $45,000 grant through the NEA’s literature discipline to support the publication and promotion of print and online versions of novels by Lookout Books, the art and science journal Ecotone, a new blog, and a Best of Ecotone fiction anthology.
Art Works deadlines
There are two deadlines for Art Works grant applications: March 7, 2013 and August 8, 2013. Different project types are accepted at each deadline depending on the arts discipline of the project. Go to the Apply for a Grant page, then click on your discipline, click on Grants for Arts Projects and then Art Works.
