Chairman Rocco Landesman Releases the Schedule for his Visit to Chicago, Illinois, for June 2 and 3, 2010

Visit will be the latest stop on the "Art Works" tour across America

Washington, DC — In his latest stop on the Art Works tour across America, scheduled for June 2 and 3, NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman will visit Chicago, Illinois. Chairman Landesman is coming to the city at the invitation of the MacArthur Foundation and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

The chairman is traveling to Chicago to learn how the arts work with a particular focus on the role of the arts in creating and sustaining vibrant urban centers. In addition to learning about the local arts environment, the chairman will participate in a press conference honoring Chicago's Mayor Richard Daley who the chairman has cited as a visionary leader.

Wednesday, June 2

Tour of the Hyde Park Art Center
 Location: 5020 South Cornell Avenue
The Hyde Park Art Center is the oldest alternative exhibition space in the city and boasts a long record of education outreach in the community. 

3:30—4:00pm

 

Travel to Street Level Youth Media

4:00—4:30pm 

 

Street Level Youth Media
Location: 2459 West Augusta Boulevard
Street Level Youth Media educates Chicago's urban youth in media arts and emerging technologies for use in self-expression, communication, and social change.  The chairman will observe Sounding Point, a radio production workshop.
 

Thursday June 3

Chicago Architecture Foundation
Location: 224 South Michigan Avenue
The chairman will join in a discussion of the foundation's new headquarters and what it means to have design at the heart of a city's brand.

10:30-11:30 am 

 

Press Conference to Honor Mayor Daley
Location: Cadillac Palace Theatre, 151 West Randolph Street

Public Presentation by Chairman Landesman  
Location: Claudia Cassidy Theater,
Chicago Cultural Center, 77 E. Randolph St.
The chairman will speak for 20 minutes, followed by Q & A.  The presentation is hosted by the MacArthur Foundation, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, the Illinois Arts Council, and the Illinois Arts Alliance.

Blue Star Museums is a partnership among Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts, and more than 700 museums in all 50 states to offer free admission to active duty military personnel and their  this summer.
