Host a Poetry Out Loud Viewing Party
April 29-30, 2013
#POL13

The culmination of every Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest is the National Finals, where 53 high school students who won poetry recitation contests around the country descend on Washington DC to vie for the title of Poetry Out Loud National Champion and a $20,000 award. In addition to the live event at the Lisner Auditorium, a live, one-time only webcast is available to all poetry fans online at www.arts.gov. You don't have to be in DC to take part in the thrill of competition. Host a viewing party in your community to watch the live webcast and learn more about the art of poetry. Follow the conversation on Twitter with the hashtag #POL13.

When to watch
The Poetry Out Loud semifinals take place on Monday, April 29, 2013, from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm EDT, where 53 high school students from Eastern, Central, and Western/Pacific regions will compete in three, separate semifinals. Nine students (three from each semifinal) will advance to the National Finals on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 between 7:00 and 9:00 pm EDT to compete for the title of 2013 Poetry Out Loud National Champion.
