Women's Studio Workshop
Rosendale, New York $25,000
|
The NEA grant will support artists in residence to create site-specific installations, sculptures, and design interventions for Rosendale's public spaces. Artists will be selected through an open international call to participate in an residency, lead public engagement activities, and fabricate installations. Project activities will enable artists and the broader community to establish imaginative public areas that celebrate the town's key attributes, such as the Hudson River Estuary, the rail trail, and park spaces. Partners include the Women's Studio Workshop, Town of Rosendale, and Wallkill Valley Land Trust. Rosendale has a population of 6,300 residents.

Blue Line at Blue Mountain by Tatana Kellner is composed of the blue plastic bags from The New York Times home deliveries crocheted into a long line referencing the blue highways on road maps. Both newspapers and maps are seen as somewhat nostalgic and slowly disappearing genres. This represents the kind of work that Women's Studio Workshop hopes to present with support from Our Town.
