The NEA grant will support the design of new permanent community gathering spaces along Route 66 in Alburquerque that will serve as performance sites and gateways to neighborhood history. Guest artist Buster Simpson will lead the community engagement process to identify sites that will be designed by artists through an open call. The City of Alburquerque, Littleglobe, Story of Place Institute, University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning CityLab, Alburquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority, and Bernalillo County will also partner to assist in the site and artist selections, ensuring that the spaces reinforce ecological and artistic priorities. As many as five sites will be designed by up to five artists that will be selected through the open call. The public spaces will serve as many as 60,000 residents in the most diverse neighborhood in New Mexico.
