Detroit Economic Growth Association

Detroit, Michigan
$100,000

The NEA grant will support the transformation of Detroit's neighborhood business districts into destinations for arts and creative entrepreneurship through the activation of vacant retail storefronts. The association will issue a call for artists to solicit proposals for art installations and designs that will activate vacant sites along struggling business corridors. Detroit Economic Growth Association, City of Detroit Arts and Grants Department, Detroit Institute of Arts, local artists, arts groups, and community development corporations will collaborate to select artists and program events that coincide with the launch of the storefront installations and attract a wide audience. As many as 34 works of art will be installed in up to 20 locations across the city. Detroit has a population of 706,640.
