Medford, Oregon, is a community of 75,000 whose history dates back to the arrival of the railroad in the 1880s. Once a major logging town, Medford is in the process of rejuvenating its downtown historic district.

The not-for-profit JPR Foundation will work with the City of Medford on the design for adaptive reuse of the Medford Grocery Company Warehouse, a currently vacant building in the city's downtown. The landmarked structure will be converted into Jefferson Square, a community asset that will serve both in-person visitors and radio listeners, showcase local arts performances, and draw people to downtown Medford. Its renovation will include space for Jefferson Public Radio, the Western States Museum of Broadcasting, live broadcasting events, performances, and public gatherings. Local architect Douglas Skelton and the Ausland Group will work with the project partners to engage the community throughout the design development process in multiple public workshops. Outside of the Medford community, the project will benefit the 1.5 million residents within the Jefferson Public Radio listening area, which covers 60,000 square miles from Eugene, Oregon, to Mendocino, California.
