Young Audiences of Western New York
Buffalo, New York
Young Audiences, the City of Buffalo, and Buffalo State College will work together on the creation of a large-scale community-developed mural in the Grant Street neighborhood that celebrates the immigrant and refugee experience. Renowned muralist Augustina Droze will design a mural in collaboration with the community to celebrate the neighborhood's rich history of immigration and its multiethnic present. As part of the creative design process, Buffalo Public School children will gather cultural stories from their families and work with artists and educators to express their stories through visual artworks, writing, and songs, ultimately informing the mural's content. The year-long initiative promises to improve quality of life and feelings of community ownership for the neighborhood. The city has a population of approximately 250,000.
