Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga
Chattanooga, Tennessee $250,000
|
Established in 1969, Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga works on behalf of all arts and cultural organizations in Hamilton County. This not-for-profit council also actively funds arts education programs in area schools. To promote livability in Chattanooga, Allied Arts will use its Our Town grant to transform a vacant lot into the Main Terrain, a new urban park adjacent to Main Street in the city's Southside neighborhood. The park will help revitalize the once desolate neighborhood into a dynamic, creative district, providing a crucial public green space filled with as many as five interactive sculptures, each of which will invite users to engage in physical play and fitness. The park will connect a convention center, several corporate campuses and hotels, three emerging neighborhoods, an inner-city elementary school, and a low-income affordable housing development. Allied Arts has partnered with Public Art Chattanooga and the City of Chattanooga's Departments of Parks and Recreation and Public Works to implement the project.
