Both the military and civilian communities were invited to Great American Voices activities at the Albany Municipal Auditorium -- a beautiful historic auditorium located off base. As a small military installation, leadership at Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base rightly determined that making the performance open to the public would both increase audience numbers and serve as a community-building activity. The base’s Commanding Officer, Col John P. Lopez, hosted a pre-performance reception for VIPs. The "sold-out" performance featured works from Porgy & Bess, My Fair Lady, and The Daughter of the Regiment. An encore of "God Bless America" was a real crowd-pleaser. Additionally, two educational performances took place at the auditorium earlier in the day, serving nearly 600 students from local middle and high schools.
