Incorporated in 2005, the Cultural Alliance of Greater Milwaukee (CAGM) serves a seven-county region in southeast Wisconsin that is home to more than two million residents. The alliance's mission is to strengthen, advance, and represent the arts and cultures sector as an essential asset for regional development. CAGM members include local performing arts groups, not-for-profit arts organizations such as museums and galleries, educational institutions, commercial creative businesses, and individuals.

CAGM's yearlong, multiphase creative economy project -- Creativity works! Milwaukee Regional Creative Economy Project -- is designed to integrate the area's not-for-profit arts and culture sector, for-profit creative businesses, and individual artists into one industry. The project received initial funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, and local partners include the City of Milwaukee, the Greater Milwaukee Committee, and the Regional Economic Development Council. With support from the NEA's MICD25, phase two of Creativity works! will comprise the development of a detailed, strategic action plan; the creation of a map of the region's creative assets and locations; research on the impact of creative enterprises and talent on the region's other key industry sectors, such as manufacturing and tourism; the development of an online system for connecting and leveraging Greater Milwaukee's creative economy assets; and early stage implementation projects.
