Using Microsoft Word Forms

These documents are available for use with Microsoft Word 2000 and higher (PC) and Word 98 and higher (MAC).

Entering Information

Move in the document clicking the mouse in an open blank (for vertical and horizontal movement) or by using the arrow, enter, or tab keys. Functions work differently depending on which version of Microsoft Word you use.

Abbreviate when information will not fit in the space provided. Editing lengthy amounts of text can be cumbersome in this format.

Troubleshooting

Q: When I open a form, the document shows {FORMTEXT} or {FORMCHECKBOX} instead of blank fields. How can I remove these so I may enter text?

A: These labels appear because the user's "Show Field Codes" function is active in Word. To correct this problem:

  1. Exit the NEA form in your browser.
  2. In Word, press ALT+F9. This tells Word to "Hide Field Codes."
  3. Return to your browser and re-open the NEA form. It should activate normally now and allow for text entries.

Q: I'm using Microsoft Word 2002. My printed document contains bubbles labeled "Field Code Changed." How can I remove them?

A: The NEA's forms were created in an earlier version of Microsoft Word. Users working in Microsoft Word 2002 should turn off the "Use Balloons" feature in that product:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Track Changes tab, click to clear the "Use Balloons in Print and Web Layout" check box.
  3. Click OK.
