FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support Journey Proud, a television series documenting various Alabama traditions. The 30-minute programs will feature Alabama artists based on the relevant research and fieldwork by noted scholars, including Alabama Center for Traditional Culture staff members, ethnomusicologist Steve Grauberger, and folklorists Deborah Boykin and Anne Kimzey. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts To support an artist residency and public practice initiative by artist Rick Lowe in several historic inner-city neighborhoods around Mobile. A series of community engagement activities will be designed to stimulate creativity, civic-mindedness, and economic revitalization through a nine-month visual and performing arts program that will examine how people of the region are imagining the future in relation to economic development, education, health care, and housing.
