To support the creation, development, and presentation of Nkeiru Okoye's Harriet Tubman: When I Crossed the Line to Freedom. A tour of performances will occur in states along the Underground Railroad where Tubman was active including Illinois, Maryland, and New York, and will commemorate the centennial of Tubman's death as well as the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.

To support a new production of Gounod's Faust set in the 1940s and '50s. Utilizing video projections to set the stage, this co-production with Arizona Opera, Lyric Opera Baltimore, and Opera Lyra Ottawa, will include creative team director Bernard Uzan, scenery by Eric Stroud, projection by Doug Provost, and lighting by Michael Baumgarten and also includes a cast led by Jonathan Boyd in the role of Faust, Jamie Offenbach as Mephistopheles, and Hyung Yun as Valentine.

To support performances of Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea. A new orchestral edition by early music scholar Alan Curtis will be used to create a reduced performance version accessible for use by smaller opera organizations and schools. Artists will include conductor Gilbert Martinez, video designer Jeremy Knight, and singers Christine Brandes in the role of Nerone and Emma McNairy as Poppea.

To support the creation, development, and presentation of composer Keeril Makan and librettist Jay Scheib's Persona. Inspired by the Ingmar Bergman film and developed with new music ensemble Alarm Will Sound, the project will be highlighted in workshops at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (winter 2013) and at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (spring 2013).

To support the co-commission and North American premiere of James MacMillan's Clemency, presented in a double bill with Franz Schubert's Hagar's Lament. The former work will serve as a prologue for the latter work with a new orchestration commissioned by Boston Lyric Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Scottish Opera, and Britten Sinfonia that will bridge the two works.

To support a new production of Carlisle Floyd's Of Mice and Men, using a newly commissioned reduced orchestration. Under the composer's direction, the reduction created by Floyd's former students Michael Ching and Craig Bohmler will be a complete re-imagining of the score by director Leland Kimball, lighting designer Dominic Chacon, costume designer Amy Chmielewski, set designer Cindy Tobias, and singers Christopher Lorge and Paul Corujo.

To support a new production of Ned Rorem's Our Town to be a part of the Summer Opera Festival. Based on the classic play by Thornton Wilder, the recent work premiered in 2006 with libretto by poet J. D. McClatchy.

To support a new production of Philip Glass's Galileo Galilei, which will inaugurate the company's new second-stage initiative CO2. CO2 is Cincinnati Opera's latest venture to engage audiences with less traditional operas that will be presented in smaller venues and feature innovative elements.

To support performances of Benjamin Britten's Owen Wingrave, presented in collaboration with the Opera Company of Philadelphia and Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The production will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the composer and through the resources of the partnering organizations will incorporate educational programming, including a dress rehearsal for students, a study guide, pre-concert lectures, podcast, and a preview recital.

To support performances of Tod Machover and Robert Pinsky's Death and the Powers, developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab. In an original creation by director Diane Paulus, the production will feature soprano Joelle Harvey and mezzo-soprano Patricia Risley and will involve designer Alex McDowell, choregrapher Karole Armitage, with technology created by the MIT Media Lab.

To support the development and premiere of The King's Man, as part of the Composer Workshop collaboration. The one-act opera by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec and librettist Terry Teachout is set in 1785 and will focus on the estranged relationship between Benjamin Franklin and his son William Franklin.

To support the Fanciulla Project, a six-week immersion in Puccini's La Fanciulla del West. The work serves as the foundation of a variety of educational activities including performances at K-12 schools and colleges, seminars for undergraduate students and the public, master classes, an exhibition at the Knoxville Museum of Art, a screening of the 1938 film, and a free concert at a local high school that will target underserved groups in the Appalachian region as well as the inner-city.

As part of the company's 55th season, the production will be the Lyric Opera's first staging of the work since 1975 and will use its new state-of-the-art performance hall enabling it to take technical advantage of a work that will require significantly larger forces on stage and in the orchestra pit.

To support performances of Beethoven's Fidelio. This classic tale of good versus evil will be the company's first production sung in German in many years. Five performances will take place at the Detroit Opera House with a free Opera Talk lecture before each performance.

To support the world premiere of Douglas J. Cuomo and John Patrick Shanley's Doubt. Based on the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play and Oscar-nominated motion picture, the production will be conducted by Christopher Franklin, with stage direction by Kevin Newbury, sets by Robert Brill, and costumes by Paul Carey; the cast will include Matthew Worth as Father Flynn, Adriana Zabala as Sister James, and Denyce Graves as Mrs. Muller.

Music Academy of the West

To support performances of Mozart's The Magic Flute, as part of the Summer School and Festival program. The academy's performance-based approach to classical music training will require that the cast and orchestra be comprised almost entirely of academy students, whose hands-on training for the production will expose them to a core piece of opera repertoire while also giving them professional experience with a German-language work.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning work depicts World War I French, German, and Scottish soldiers defying their commands to enact a truce to spend Christmas together and will feature singers Bill Burden, Liam Bonner, Craig Irvin, and Troy Cook, and will be conducted by Michael Christie, directed by Eric Simonson, and performed on a set designed by Francis O'Connor, with costumes by Karin Kopischke, lighting designed by Marcus Dilliard, and illuminated with video projections by Andrzej Goulding.

Featuring Indian dance company Kuchipudi Kalanidhi and the Opera Lafayette Orchestra and Chorus, the performance and accompanying programs will explore the representation of exoticism to attract new audiences to opera including DC public school students and their families, as well as visitors to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Conducted by Donata Renzetti, directed by Ian Campbell, with a set design by Ralph Funicello, the production will feature a cast comprised of Ferrucio Furlanetto as Archbishop Thomas Becket, Susan Nevis as First Chorister, and Helen Schneiderman as Second Chorister.

To support the commission and premiere of Dolores Claiborne by composer Tobias Picker and librettist J.D. McClatchy. Based on the novel by Stephen King, the production will include a title role brought to life by Dolora Zajick, alongside Elizabeth Futral as Vera, and will be conducted by George Manahan and directed by James Robinson.

The co-commission and co-production with Opera Company of Philadelphia is based on the life and words of Oscar Wilde and will be brought to the stage by the creative team of director Kevin Newbury, composer Theodore Morrison with a libretto by Theodore Morrison and John Cox, scenic designer David Korins, lighting designer Rick Fisher, costume designer David C. Woolard, and conductor Evan Rogister, along with singers including David Daniels, Heidi Stober, and Dwayne Croft.

To support performances of Carlisle Floyd's Of Mice and Men as part of the third year of the American Classics Series, accompanied by significant educational programming. Outreach activities will juxtapose this literary American classic next to Floyd's operatic version in a program titled Spoken and Sung, in which singers will perform arias from the opera and actors will perform correlated scenes from Steinbeck's play.

To support performances of Poulenc's La Voix Humaine and Puccini's Suor Angelica in a double-bill production. Accompanied by adult and youth education events, including in-school presentations, free dress rehearsals for high school students, pre-performance talks, and post-performance question-and-answer sessions, performances will be broadcast via radio and will stream online through the company's partnership with the local classical music station.
