Artist Communities

Alliance of Artists Communities
Providence, RI
$75,000
To support the research and publication of Artist Communities: Assessing Impact. This study will focus on the role residencies play for artists and communities. Combined with workshops and training activities, this project will benefit as many as 6,500 artists.

Anderson Ranch Arts Foundation (aka Anderson Ranch Arts Center)
Snowmass Village, CO
$20,000
To support an artist residency program for emerging and established artists. Visual and media artists will receive studio space, equipment and materials, meals, housing, and travel. Established in 1985, the program enables up to 28 artists to be in residence and to interact with approximately 700 community members via exhibitions and lectures.

Atlantic Center for the Arts, Inc.
New Smyrna Beach, FL
$35,000
To support artist residencies for emerging and mid-career artists as well as a summer writing workshop for teenagers. Master artists will collaborate with resident artists in visual arts, literature, music, and the performing arts. Approximately 24 artists and 2,500 attendees are expected to benefit from the activities.

Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (aka Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts)
Omaha, NE
$35,000
To support residencies for artists to create new work. Participating artists will be provided housing, workspace, technical assistance, and a monthly stipend for two- to four-month residencies. Up to 36 residencies will be supported and approximately 25,000 people will attend public programs.

Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Inc. (aka BAX)
Brooklyn, NY
$15,000
To support the expansion of dance and theater residencies for artists. As many as 12 emerging artists will be provided free rehearsal space and stipends as well as artistic, technical, and production support. An estimated 8,000 audience members will benefit in addition to the artists.

Carnegie Mellon University
Pittsburgh, PA

To support residencies at the Studio for Creative Inquiry. Up to eight artists will receive residencies emphasizing creation in new media arts and emerging artforms. Approximately 16 artists and as many as 1,000 audience members will benefit.

Djerassi Resident Artists Program
Woodside, CA
$25,000
To support artist residencies. Djerassi will provide studios, living accommodations, meals, and professional assistance to visual, media, performing, and literary artists. As many as 50 American and international artists and an audience of 1,200 will benefit from the project.

Eyebeam Atelier, Inc. (aka Eyebeam)
New York, NY
$15,000
To support residencies for artists. Eyebeam Atelier will provide up to 12 artists with five-month residencies and as many as five artists with year-long residencies. An online audience of 17,500 is expected to benefit.

Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Inc. (aka FAWC)
Provincetown, MA
$15,000
To support the Fellowship Program for Emerging Artists and Writers. Fine Arts Work Center will provide living accommodations, studios, and monthly stipends to as many as 47 selected poets, fiction writers, and visual artists. Approximately 900 people are expected to attend the program's community activities, plus an anticipated 150 public schoolchildren.

Flux Factory, Inc. (aka Flux Factory)
Long Island City, NY
$10,000
To support residencies for emerging curators. Flux Factory will give up to two curators six months to work on exhibitions and educational initiatives. An audience of 35,000 is expected to benefit from the project.

Hambidge Center for Creative Arts & Sciences, Inc. (aka The Hambidge Center)
Rabun Gap, GA
$10,000
To support The New Artist Initivative. Residencies will be provided to approximately 20 emerging and established artists new to Hambidge. As many as 1,300 audience members will benefit from the project.

Headlands Center for the Arts (aka Headlands)
Sausalito, CA
$40,000
To support artist residencies for emerging and mid-career artists. Direct support will be provided to as many as 45 artists at Headlands, located in the Marin Headlands, part of the historic Golden Gate National Recreation Area administered by the National Park Service. The development and creation of new work is expected to reach more than 11,000 annual visitors.

Hermitage Artist Retreat, Inc.
Englewood, FL
$15,000
To support artist residencies. Participants will be drawn from accomplished playwrights, composers, and creative artists from other disciplines and awarded up to six weeks of residency time to be used in a two-year period. Approximately 45 artists will participate in residencies which include community engagement programs reaching an estimated audience of 5,000.

Kala Institute (aka Kala Art Institute)
Berkeley, CA
$20,000
To support the artist residencies in visual arts, video, performance, digital media, and book arts. American and international artists will receive stipends, technical support, and access to working facilities. As many as nine artists will be selected for residency periods ranging from one to six months, and an estimated 25,000 people are expected to attend related public events.

Kansas City Artists Coalition
Kansas City, MO
$15,000
To support the curated International Artist Residency Program. Fatma Abu Rumi (Israel), Zehra Cobanli, (Turkey), Michel Delacroix (France), and Bai Ming (China) will serve as artists in-residence at the Kansas City Artists Coalition. As many as 475 people from the community will have the opportunity to interact with the artists.

Lawrence Arts Center (aka The Lawrence Arts Center)
Lawrence, KS
$20,000
To support a residency program for emerging and established artists. Up to 10 artists of various disciplines will do two-week to four-month residencies and a printmaker and a ceramacist will each receive a year-long residency. Approximately 200,000 visitors will benefit from the project.

MacDowell Colony, Inc. (aka The MacDowell Colony)
Peterborough, NH
$30,000
To support residencies for artists. As many as 12 composers, writers, media artists, visual artists, interdisciplinary artists, and architects (who have not previously worked with the MacDowell Colony) from across the United States will be invited to create or complete works. An estimated 1,000 people are expected to attend public events associated with the program.

McColl Center for Visual Art
Charlotte, NC
$40,000
To support residencies for artists. Participating artists will be provided housing, workspace, technical assistance, transportation costs, materials, and a monthly stipend for a three-month residency. As many as 12 artists will be in residence; the project will benefit an audience of 22,000, including children.

Montalvo Association (aka Montalvo Arts Center)
Saratoga, CA
$20,000
To support the Lucas Artists Program, an artist residency program. Artists working in the performing, visual, and literary arts also will have the opportunity to present or exhibit their work at Villa Montalvo and other Bay Area venues. As many as 24 artists will be selected either by invitation or by a juried process, and more than 8,000 people are expected to benefit from residency-related exhibitions and performances.

Neskowin Coast Foundation (aka Sitka Center for Art and Ecology)
Otis, OR
$10,000
To support residencies for Art and Ecology. As many as 28 American emerging and mid-career artists will receive stipends and residencies. An estimated audience of 1,020 will benefit from the program.

Redline Milwaukee, Inc. (aka Redline)
Milwaukee, WI

To support an artist residency. Nathaniel Donnett will create new work and provide lectures and workshops for the community.

Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Inc. (aka Skowhegan)
Madison, ME
$20,000
To support a residency program for emerging visual artists. Artists will be provided with a private studio and full room-and-board as well as weekly private and group critiques by a faculty of leading professional artists. Fellowships will be given to as many as five artists-in-residence and the program will benefit approximately 370 artists, students, and community members.

Vermont Studio Center, Inc. (aka Vermont Studio Center)
Johnson, VT
$25,000
To support the Literature in Translation (LiT) Program. As many as 16 literary translators will receive month-long residencies. This project is estimated to benefit an audience of 966 people.

Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (aka VCCA)
Amherst, VA
$10,000
To support residencies for visual artists and composers. As many as 10 African American and Latino artists will be selected for three- to five-week residencies. An estimated audience of 3,000 will benefit from this project.
