To support an inventory and analysis of datasets and definitions used by nonprofit, governmental, and other organizations to profile creative economies or industries. The results will yield a "core" definition and dataset that national and local policy-makers can adopt to understand the relationship of arts and cultural sectors to other creative industries, and, beyond that goal, to place creative industries in a broader economic policy context.

To support professional development training for teachers and teaching artists in aesthetic education and arts integration. In addition, the Overture Center's resident companies—the Madison Ballet, Madison Symphony Orchestra, Madison Opera, Children's Theater of Madison, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and Kanopy Dance—will provide interdisciplinary in-school and after-school residencies in 10 Madison Metropolitan School District elementary and middle schools.

To support HeartStrings, an outreach project by an ensemble of the orchestra's string musicians that will provide residency programs and perform interactive recitals for underserved and special needs communities. In partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Health's Central Wisconsin Center, the Rhapsodie String Quartet, with training and the participation of certified therapists, will offer 90 residency programs reaching 20 to 25 participants during each session; more than 3,150 children and adults with special needs will participate in the project.

Opera for the Young, Inc.

To support a multi-state school tour of a new production of Cendrillon by composer Jules Massenet. Teaching materials will include a tutorial CD with vocal and piano parts, a teacher's guide about opera, and activities for integration of the opera into academic subjects.

To support the restaging of Bill T. Jones's D-Man in the Waters: 1st Movement on the University of Wisconsin at Madison's undergraduate dance students. The residency, led by former Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance company member Catherine Cabeen, will include master classes, rehearsals, and lectures on the company's work, as well as free showings for local middle and high school students.

To support Plaza Landmark Art, a public art commissioning project. To be undertaken in partnership with the Rotary Club of Madison and the Madison Arts Commission, the museum will commission an iconic public art piece that will draw visitors downtown and serve as the centerpiece of an annual family festival.

To support fees and travel costs for visiting writers. For more than 31 years, the center has been presenting authors representing a variety of styles and heritages in readings and master classes for working class, racially mixed, and multigenerational community members.
