FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Challenge America To support a cultural tourism project of West Central Indiana arts organizations through the development of a smartphone application, calendar of events, and brochures. The project, with more than 30 arts organizations participating, is a promotional project for arts and cultural activities in a six-county region. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support a production of The Miracle Worker by William Gibson and related outreach activities designed to deepen relationships with the disabled community, and to awaken awareness among the non-disabled. In partnership with VSA Indiana and its state-wide affiliates, the project will feature a tour of outreach activities for children with and without disabilities, as well as immersion training for the actors portraying lead roles at the Indiana School for the Blind and Deaf. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support Musical Diversity in the Hoosier State. Traditional Arts Indiana staff will create touring exhibit panels that celebrate a diverse group of traditional musical ensembles and will be displayed in libraries throughout the state, augmented by public programs featuring the ensembles and a website. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts To support an artist residency engagement series in central Indiana. During a one-week residency, three emerging or mid-career Midwestern artists will each create a site-specific installation using recycled materials and conduct a public lecture demonstration; the installations will focus on transparency of process and issues of sustainability; artists will receive an honorarium, production budget, studio space, organizational support, and a solo exhibition. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of Complexions, Nrityagram, and Ballet Hispanico dance companies. Each company will participate in outreach activities, including master classes, workshops, and discussions. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Challenge America To support the creation of a sound chamber sculpture by artist Juan Angel Chavez, in collaboration with local high school and university students. A similar project resulted in a sound chamber that measured 25 feet in length, 20 feet in width, and 10 feet in height. After the sound chamber is created using found objects, musicians and performers will be invited to perform within the space.
