To support a symposium, temporary art installations, and an exhibition focusing on the use and function of public space in Alaskan cities. In partnership with International Gallery of Contemporary Art (IGCA), internationally recognized artists and architects will be invited to participate in a symposium and create temporary art installations in six Alaska cities; the exhibition of paintings, videos, and installations by Alaskan artists will be mounted at IGCA.

To support the creation of the Architectural League Digital Channel. The channel will provide online access to multimedia programs, including video documentation of live events; multi-media reports on design topics from correspondents around the country; monthly roundtable discussions and interviews; and video shorts on significant recent works of architecture and design.

To support the first phase of a design/build competition for students and emerging professionals. Held in partnership with Habitat for Humanity International, the competition will challenge participants to create a single-family "Habitat House" using innovative and sustainable building solutions.

To support Architecture of Consequence: Bay Area and Dutch Designers Respond to the Future. Through an exhibition, publication, and symposium during the center's 2011 Architecture and the City festival in San Francisco, 12 Dutch and 12 San Francisco Bay Area architect/designers will respond to the global problems surrounding topics of food, health, energy, density, social cohesion, and diminishing resources.

Programs will include lectures, performances, community events, student and teacher workshops, and family programs that explore the interconnections of architecture with the visual and performing arts.

To support the addition of a mapping component to the What's Out There Database of Historic Designed Landscapes. An interactive mapping component will be included in the free, online, searchable database that includes images and information about more than 800 designed landscapes and their 450 designers, architects, stewards, and patrons.

To support the second phase of Made in Midtown, a project that uses New York City's fashion industry as a focal point to investigate the relationship between place, industry, and innovation. A study undertaken in the first phase culminated in an interactive, multi-media website that features videos, maps, diagrams, and profiles of people at every level in the fashion industry; the second phase will include an exhibition and publication and will develop a vision for a working, creative district in Midtown that could become a new economic development model for light manufacturing.

To support the commission and exhibition of site-specific architectural installations. The gallery will commission four emerging architects to design and construct architectural installations for the gallery's space; each project will allow the designer to investigate innovative materials as well as expose the public to new thoughts and practices in the field of architecture.

To support the development of design guidelines based on specific spatial needs for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Artist/Designer Michael Singer and clinical researcher Dr. Matthew Goodwin will collaborate to develop guidelines for the design of interiors and exterior spaces, furniture, and utilitarian products for ASD learning and daycare facilities.

To support Remix: Creating Places for People on West Broadway, a youth-focused urban design project. Project workshops, public exhibitions, and symposiums will engage as many as 25 primarily low-income minority youth to design, fabricate, and install sculptures, murals, lighting, and other physical improvements to energize and activate abandoned public space on West Broadway Street in North Minneapolis.

Maryland Institute (aka Maryland Institute College of Art)

To support a series of interdisciplinary design workshops to increase access to affordable, healthy food options in Baltimore. The Center for Design Practice at Maryland Institute College of Art, in collaboration with the Baltimore City Health Department, the Center for a Livable Future at Johns Hopkins University, and Great Kids Farm of the Baltimore Public Schools, will research, analyze, and propose possible design strategies and recommendations to remedy limited access to healthy food.

To support Design Your Neighborhood. The intensive re-envisioning process will engage inner-city minority youth on topics of architecture, urban design, planning, graphic design, and filmmaking. Youth will participate in educational sessions, field trips, design charrettes with local design leaders and the Watkins College of Art, Design, and Film faculty, and will produce a film documenting the project.

To support the exhibition Designing for Disaster. The exhibition will highlight innovative national design projects that will educate visitors about the tools and strategies that today's designers, engineers, planners, and communities are investigating and adopting to diminish the impact of natural disasters.

To support the exhibition Jugaad Urbanism: Resourceful Strategies for Indian Cities with accompanying programs and catalogue. The exhibition, developed in partnership with The New School's China India Institute, will feature films, photographs, installations, models, and renderings exploring resourceful design solutions ("jugaad" in Hindi) utilized by Indian architects and planners to develop strategies for sustainable growth in urban Indian communities.

To support the development of issues of Next American City magazine. Each of the four issues will include a range of investigative feature articles, interviews with thought leaders, opinion-driven columns, and news about new trends in urban affairs. The magazine has covered topics that include Youngstown, Ohio's community-driven planning process, the high infant mortality rate in Memphis, Tennessee, and air pollution mitigation in Birmingham, Alabama.

The event will offer free access to more than 200 architecturally significant sites and facilities, along with more than 150 education programs throughout New York City's five boroughs to promote a greater appreciation of New York City's built environment.

To support the development of a community plan for redesigning Stockton Street, a San Francisco Chinatown Main Street. Working with the Chinatown Community Development Center, the partners will re-imagine a 10-block stretch of Stockton Street that will result in a plan that includes transportation, placemaking, and economic development goals while maintaining the corridor's vibrancy.

A series of city plans will be created that illustrate different but plausible futures based on emerging energy, transit, and environmental trends. Three-dimensional modeling will be used to show growth sequencing with aerial and eye-level perspectives.

University of Houston (on behalf of Community Design Resource Center)

To support the Collaborative Community Design Initiative: No. 2. by the Community Design Resource Center, through which a plan will be created for the sustainable development of select Houston communities. Program activities will offer residents and community stakeholders comprehensive design assistance, including goal setting, visioning, and implementation workshops to generate design strategies collaboratively and identify potential civic projects that build upon existing resources and strengths of four Houston communities.

To support Re-stitching Tampa to its Riverfront. The national competition will elicit designs with the potential of connecting the city to the Hillsborough Riverfront using underutilized public space. An exhibition of design submissions and a series of public design lectures by the competition jurors and community stakeholders will be offered.
