WISCONSIN First Stage Milwaukee, Inc. (aka First Stage Children's Theater) Milwaukee, WI $25,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support First Stage Theater Academy. Professional actors will lead workshops focusing on acting skills, playwriting, and play production. Lawrence University of Wisconsin Appleton, WI $50,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Choral Music To support an American Masterpieces Choral Music Festival. The festival of American choral music will feature four days of programming including performances, master classes, a workshop, a commissioned work, a guest conductor residency, a local radio broadcast, and outreach performances in Chicago and Milwaukee as well as participation by 250 high school and college singers.
Madison Symphony Orchestra, Inc. Madison, WI $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support HeartStrings, a community outreach project. An ensemble of the orchestra's professional string musicians will perform interactive recitals for underserved and special-needs communities. Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design Milwaukee, WI $35,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support the Pre-College MAJORS program, a visual and design course. Design professional will provide hands-on residencies for approximately 90 high school students. Sheboygan Arts Foundation, Inc. (aka John Michael Kohler Arts Center) Sheboygan, WI $40,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Presenting To support Connecting Communities and the commissioning of new works at the Kohler Arts Center. Artists will collaborate with area cultural minorities, senior centers, churches, the Audubon Society, at-risk youth, and domestic abuse shelters to develop residency projects and community-based commissions. Skylight Opera Theatre Corp. Milwaukee, WI $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Musical Theater To support the KidsWrites Workshop Program and an outreach tour. The project, intended to advance children's understanding of musical theater, includes a writing workshop that culminates in the creation of a musical. Stockbridge-Munsee Community Bowler, WI $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support a Native American Traditional Arts Program. Participants will have the opportunity to learn a variety of Native American art forms, including beading, regalia crafting, quill work, native dance, and basketmaking. University of Wisconsin at Madison (on behalf of Chazen Museum of Art) Madison, WI $30,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Museum To support a Collections Management and Access Initiative. The project will enhance the Chazen Museum's educational mission and facilitate improved management of the collection in preparation for an upcoming building expansion. Wild Space, Inc. (aka Wild Space Dance Company) Milwaukee, WI $10,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support Dancing Aloud. Students and teachers from four Milwaukee Public School sites will participate in a dance residency program in which they will create original dances based on stories from their reading curriculum. Wisconsin Arts Board Madison, WI $646,700 CATEGORY: Partnership FIELD/DISCIPLINE: State & Regional To support Partnership Agreement activities. Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Inc. Madison, WI $7,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support Concerts on the Square, free summer outdoor community outreach concerts. The orchestra will perform the concerts on the steps of the Capitol Square in downtown Madison. Woodland Pattern, Inc. (aka Woodland Pattern Book Center) Milwaukee, WI $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a series of readings, exhibits, and community workshops. Proposed writers include Bei Dao, Cornelius Eady, Harryette Mullen, Juliana Spahr, and Anselm Hollo.
