NEW JERSEY Arts Horizons Inc. Englewood, NJ $18,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support Musical Motto. Experienced teaching artists will lead four, 32-week classroom residencies that integrate music theory, composition, and theater leading to student productions held in three New York City Special Education District 75/Citywide schools for autistic and/or emotionally disturbed students, ages 9 to 18. Barnegat Bay Decoy and Baymen's Museum, Inc. (aka Tuckerton Seaport) Tuckerton, NJ $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support the Tuckerton Seaport Artist in Residence and Apprenticeship Program. The program features residencies in decoy carving and basketry, and a boat building apprenticeship program. Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company Union, NJ $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the expansion of Creating Cultural Communities, the company's education and outreach program. The project will include re-establishing an annual residency known as SummerDance in its home region. Institute for Arts and Humanities Education New Brunswick, NJ $40,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support Pixel Nation, a media arts education project. The program is designed to teach at-risk teens all aspects of digital and video filmmaking through an interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes hands-on learning and art making. Music For All Seasons, Inc. Scotch Plains, NJ $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support interactive music programs for children and residents of targeted communities. Between two and four professional musicians will be engaged for programs in New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and California geared primarily toward children living in shelters for victims of domestic violence. New Jersey State Council on the Arts Trenton, NJ $759,800 CATEGORY: Partnership FIELD/DISCIPLINE: State & Regional To support Partnership Agreement activities. Newark Public Radio, Inc. (aka Jazz88 WBGO) Newark, NJ $60,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the production of JazzSet with Dee Dee Bridgewater, a weekly radio series of jazz concerts. The series is produced by WBGO/Newark and distributed by NPR, reaching 180,000 listeners each week throughout the United States. Paper Mill Playhouse (Consortium) Millburn, NJ $25,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Musical Theater To support the Access Services Program for persons with disabilities. In partnership with the New Jersey Theatre Alliance, Paper Mill Playhouse will provide education and assistance in barrier-free access and access services to theaters and patrons with hearing, visual, and other physical impairments. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey-Camden Campus Camden, NJ $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support the 20th annual Rutgers-Camden Writers' Conference, a day of free readings and writing workshops for residents of Camden and South Jersey. The scheduled keynote speakers are Lorrie Moore and Paul Muldoon. Westfield Young Artists' Cooperative Theatre, Inc. Westfield, NJ $35,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support the summer performing arts program. Aspiring young actors, dancers, and musicians are immersed in a professional-level rehearsal and performance process that culminates with a production of the Broadway musical Carousel by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein.
