IOWA Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra Association, Inc. (aka Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra) Cedar Rapids, IA $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support Pied Piper, an interactive chamber music concert series for children. Performed at the Cedar Rapids Public Library, the 32 concerts for pre-school age children and special elementary school populations will feature strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion ensembles. Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Dubuque, IA $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support The Final Four project, a free 50th-anniversary community concert. Patterned after a college basketball tournament, the project will entail audience members voting for their favorite classical music work to be performed at the concert. Edmundson Art Foundation, Inc. (aka Des Moines Art Center) Des Moines, IA $215,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts Touring To support the touring exhibition After Many Springs: Art in the Midwest in the 1930s, with accompanying catalogue and education programs. The Des Moines Art Center exhibition examines the intersections between painting, photography, and film that grew out of the Midwest during the Great Depression. Iowa Arts Council Des Moines, IA $563,000 CATEGORY: Partnership FIELD/DISCIPLINE: State & Regional To support Partnership Agreement activities. Old Creamery Theatre Company Amana, IA $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support an outreach initiative to expand the company's touring activities. Productions by the Young People's Touring Company will travel to an increased number of schools, and a new tour of works for adult audiences will be launched. Red Cedar Chamber Music Marion, IA $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support Reaching Out: Rural Outreach Concerts. The project will include a series of chamber music concerts and educational events in small rural Iowa communities. University of Iowa Iowa City, IA $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the production of a documentary film about a painting by Grant Wood. American Gothic: Portrait of a Nation will tell the story of one of America's best-known paintings. University of Iowa Iowa City, IA $25,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Presenting To support Spot: The Hancher Family Arts Adventure, a series of residencies and performances targeting an audience of Gen-Xers (ages 25 to 35). Activities will take place in the Iowa communities of Spencer, Perry, Marshalltown, and Iowa City.
