OHIO Cincinnati Ballet Company, Inc. Cincinnati, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of a Baker's Dozen, choreographed by Twyla Tharp. The work will be performed in a program titled Twyla Tharp, Plus. Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Cincinnati, OH $25,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support Living Composers and Their Music: A Multi-Generational Perspective. Performances of works by John Adams, John Harbison, Stephen Paulus, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Erkki-Sven Tüür are planned as well as a world premiere of Deep Woods, a new work by composer Charles Coleman. Cityfolk, Inc. Dayton, OH $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support the Cityfolk Festival. The event will feature music ranging from Celtic to zydeco and will culminate with Cityfolk's 25th anniversary celebration featuring NEA National Heritage Fellows including the gospel quartet the Dixie Hummingbirds and Lebanese reed flute player Nadim Dlaikan. Cleveland International Film Festival, Inc. Cleveland, OH $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the 31st Cleveland International Film Festival. The festival presents current work from around the world, along with educational programs such as film screenings for high school students. More than 43,000 people are expected to attend the event. Cleveland Modern Dance Association (aka DANCECleveland) Cleveland, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of Chicago's Luna Negra Dance Theatre by DANCECleveland. The project will include school residencies, a master class, a family/student matinee performance, and pre- and post-performance lectures. Columbus Symphony Orchestra (Consortium) Columbus, OH $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the Contemporary Music Festival. The six-day festival of new music, in partnership with Ohio State University (OSU), will feature the works of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gunther Schuller and will be broadcast on local radio.
Culture Works (aka Arts and Culture Alliance of the Miami Valley) Dayton, OH $30,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Local Arts Agencies To support SmART Cards. A marketing initiative to raise public awareness of the arts in the Greater Dayton area, including nearby Wright Patterson Air Force Base. SmART Cards are gift cards that may be used to pay the admission to local plays, concerts, and dance performances. Cuyahoga Community College Foundation (Consortium) Cleveland, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of MOMIX and Joe Goode Performance Group in collaboration with DANCECleveland. The project will include community educational activities. Cuyahoga Community College Foundation Cleveland, OH $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the annual Tri-C JazzFest. The project will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Thelonious Monk through concerts, commissions, and film screening. Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Association (aka Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra) Dayton, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the Made in America Festival. Orchestral and chamber music performances of works by American composers, including a commissioned work by local composer Steven Winteregg, will take place during the festival. Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati Cincinnati, OH $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Musical Theater To support the development, workshop, and production of a new musical. Producing artistic director D. Lynn Meyers will direct Orphan Train by Obie and Outer Critics' Circle award-winning playwright and composer Mary Murfitt. Estes, Angela M. Worthington, OH $20,000 CATEGORY: Literature Fellowships FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a creative writing fellowship. Kenyon Review Gambier, OH $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support publication costs and related expenses for issues of The Kenyon Review. The Review will integrate its Web site content with that of the magazine and continue a marketing campaign to promote both the journal and the Web site. Musical Arts Association (aka The Cleveland Orchestra) Cleveland, OH $50,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support Evocations of Vienna, an exploration of the works of composer Richard Strauss and Johann Strauss II. The project will include concert performances by the Cleveland Orchestra of Richard Strauss's opera Der Rosenkavalier, Johann Strauss's polkas and waltzes, and related educational activities. Ohio University Main Campus (on behalf of Athens Center for Film and Video) Athens, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the 34th Athens International Film and Video Festival. The event features narrative work, documentaries, and short films produced in the United States and abroad. Powell, Lynn C. Oberlin, OH $20,000 CATEGORY: Literature Fellowships FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a creative writing fellowship. SPACES Cleveland, OH $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts To support the World Artists Program, a residency opportunity for national and international artists to create new work. Participating artists will be provided with studio space, an honorarium, a stipend, and a materials budget. Waldrep III, George Calvin Mt. Vernon, OH $20,000 CATEGORY: Literature Fellowships FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a creative writing fellowship.
