FLORIDA African Caribbean Dance Theatre, Inc. Tallahassee, FL $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support the 10th Annual Florida African Dance Festival. The event will include a conference that will feature African immigrant artists in dance, song, language, and drum workshops and culminate in a festival. Atlantic Center for the Arts, Inc. New Smyrna Beach, FL $40,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Presenting To support interdisciplinary residencies for emerging and mid-career artists. Distinguished artists working in the disciplines of visual, literary, and performing arts will collaborate with each other. Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator, Inc. Miami, FL $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts To support the Caribbean Crossroads Series. The project will present solo and group exhibitions featuring the work of emerging Caribbean artists. Enzian Theater, Inc. (aka Enzian Theater) Maitland, FL $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the 16th annual Florida Film Festival. Held in the spring, the event features more than 120 films in categories such as animation, films on Florida, narrative and music films. More than 23,000 are expected to attend the festival. Fink, Jonathan Pensacola, FL $20,000 CATEGORY: Literature Fellowships FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a creative writing fellowship. Florida Dance Association, Inc. Miami Beach, FL $30,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the 29th Florida Dance Festival. The program offers training and performing opportunities for dancers and students, professional development for teachers, creative and collaborative opportunities for choreographers, and presentations by national and international dance companies. Florida Grand Opera, Inc. Miami, FL $35,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Opera To support the world premiere of Anna Karenina by composer David Carlson and librettist Colin Graham. The two-act opera, based on Leo Tolstoy's novel, will take place during the annual OPERA America conference and will be performed in the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House in Miami's new Carnival Center for the Performing Arts. Florida Orchestra, Inc. Tampa, FL $12,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support The Festival de Musica Latina. The project will consist of six concerts of diverse programming that will feature Latin jazz along with classical masterworks by Latino composers and related educational activities. Florida State University (on behalf of Maggie Allesee Nat'l Center for Choreography) Tallahassee, FL $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the Free to Rep project with Oakland-based AXIS Dance Company. Free to Rep is a pilot project of the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography designed to support choreographic research and development by bringing together United States based repertory companies and choreographers together in creative residencies. Jacksonville Symphony Association Jacksonville, FL $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support Fresh Ink 2008: Florida Composers' Competition. The biennial competition will include open rehearsal reading sessions, performances by finalists, and a commission. Miami City Ballet, Inc. Miami Beach, FL $30,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support presentations of George Balanchine's La Valse, Jerome Robbins' The Concert, and Marius Petipa's Aurora's Wedding. Performances will take place at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Miami Performing Arts Center, and the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. Miami Dade College (on behalf of Miami International Film Festival) Miami, FL $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts
To support the Outreach and Big Picture Programs at the 2007 Miami International Film Festival. These two outreach programs feature screenings and panel discussions along with discussions between participating filmmakers and high school and college students.
New World Symphony, Inc. Miami Beach, FL $50,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the Musician Professional Development Program. Under the artistic direction of Michael Tilson Thomas, the program will utilize performances, coaching, and community outreach activities to prepare young artists for musical leadership positions in the orchestral field. Orlando Ballet, Inc. Orlando, FL $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of a George Balanchine program and a regional tour of Swan Lake. The performances will be accompanied by educational components. Sarasota Film Festival, Inc. Sarasota, FL $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the 2007 Sarasota Film Festival. More than 85 films will be presented to an audience of 39,000 people. Tigertail Productions, Inc. Miami, FL $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Presenting To support the production and presentation of a series of performances and outreach activities. The series will include week-long artist residencies, dance and music performances, panel discussions, workshops, and outreach activities targeting Miami's diverse Caribbean, Central American, and South American communities. Vero Beach Museum of Art Vero Beach, FL $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Museum To support the touring exhibition The Reality of Things: Trompe l'Oeil in America, with accompanying catalogue. The art of illusion and the depiction of illusory objects and architecture have occupied artists since antiquity.
