COLORADO Anderson Ranch Arts Foundation (aka Anderson Ranch Arts Center) Snowmass Village, CO $25,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts To support an artist residency program. Artists will receive studio space, equipment and materials, meals, housing, travel, and exhibition opportunities to experiment with digital media. Aspen Ballet Company & School (aka Aspen Santa Fe Ballet) Aspen, CO $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the staging and presentation of a ballet by Finnish choreographer Jorma Elo. First Flash, with music by Sibelius, will premiere in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Aspen, Colorado. Central City Opera House Association Denver, CO $12,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Opera To support the world premiere of Poet Li Bai by composer Guo Wenjing and librettists Diana Liao and Xu Ying. The new opera is inspired by the work of Li Bai, a revered Chinese poet who lived 1,200 years ago during the Tang dynasty. Colorado Ballet Company Denver, CO $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the creation and presentation of a new work by choreographer Jessica Lang. The ballet will be choreographed to the music of Norah Jones, mixed with other selections of non-vocal jazz music, and will focus on the relationship between two people. The work will be performed at Denver's Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Colorado Symphony Association (aka Colorado Symphony Orchestra) Denver, CO $12,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support performances of new American works featuring percussionist Evelyn Glennie. Two subscription concerts of music by Jennifer Higdon, Michael Daugherty, Mack Wilberg, William Billings, and William Schuman and a family concert with discussion and musical illustrations lead by music director Jeffrey Kahane and Glennie are planned. Denver Film Society Denver, CO $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the 30th Denver International Film Festival. The event will present more than 150 films from the United States and abroad to an audience of more than 30,000 people. Festival programming will include contemporary cinema, tributes to select film artists, and educational screenings for local students. Independent Films, Inc. (aka Aspen Filmfest) Aspen, CO $12,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the 16th Aspen Shortsfest film festival. Short, live action, animation, and documentary films from the United States and abroad will be showcased. Music Associates of Aspen, Inc. (aka Aspen Music Festival and School) Aspen, CO $25,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the Aspen Music Festival's American Academy of Conducting. The summer institute for post-conservatory conductors will engage participants in a comprehensive, professional development training program. University of Northern Colorado Greeley, CO $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the 37th annual UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival. Performances will feature NEA Jazz Master Roy Haynes, Mary Stallings, and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra.
