To support the presentation of Echoing of Trumpets, by British choreographer Antony Tudor. The company will perform the work at the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City, and offer education and outreach programs for Utah elementary and secondary students.

To support the commission of new plays. With water becoming a resource that is increasingly contentious in the West, the company will commission as many as 12 writers, each with Utah connections, to write a short play on the subject.

To support the production of a new adaptation of Christopher Marlowe's The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, adapted and directed by Howard Jensen. The work will be presented as part of the Utah Shakespearean Festival's rotating repertory of classical productions.

Sundance Children's Theatre Inc.

To support the Sundance Theatre Laboratory, a professional development program for theater artists. The project will use the support of resource artists and mentors to develop new scripts, stage adaptations of previously written narratives, and develop new interpretations of classic texts.

Utah Symphony & Opera

CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence  FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music 
To support Poets & Passions, a celebration of British poets and composers through music, opera, film, and lectures. Under the direction of Keith Lockhart, the orchestra will perform symphonic works by George Butterworth and Ralph Vaughan Williams, as well as Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

To support a consortium project for the development of a new opera by composer Ricky Ian Gordon and librettist Michael Korrie titled The Grapes of Wrath. Co-commissioned with the Minnesota Opera, the project will include a semi-staged public reading of excerpts and a 10-day workshop period followed by a semi-staged concert in June 2006.
