To support a partnership with the City of Northport and the Tuscaloosa Arts Council to develop a new Kentuck art center complex. The art center would serve as the hub of the community's arts events with space suitable for hosting major national touring exhibitions, lectures and concerts, and showcasing regional artists. The center would serve as West Alabama's only public multi-disciplinary art center and spur interest, additional development and revitalization of the entire downtown area.

To support a partnership with the Bay Area Arts Educators, the State of Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel, and Dogwood Productions, Inc. to design and construct a Web site. The site will promote both the reopening of the museum and its opening exhibition, Picturing the French Style: Three Hundred Years of Art and Fashion to teachers in a predominantly rural, low-income six county area, as well as state-wide. Content will include an interactive guide to the museum and a series of curriculum-based lesson plans and arts activities.

To support a partnership with the Shoals Chamber of Commerce, the Tennessee Valley Art Center, the Florence-Lauderdale Tourism, the Colbert County Visitors Bureau and others for a regional conference to examine the Shoals CultureNet strategic plan. Developed in 1999, this strategic plan proposed linking cultural heritage and quality of life assets to economic development efforts for northwest Alabama. A key recommendation of the 1999 plan was to convene the regionwide conference to further the agenda for cultural tourism, historic preservation and related improvements.

To support a partnership with the Pee-Posh Project, an ongoing arts program within the Gila River Indian Community serving both the Pima/O'Odham and Maricopa/Pee-Posh tribes. The project identifies community artists and elders to mentor youth, ages eight-18 in apprenticeships in Maricopa traditional and commercial pottery, carving, beadwork, gourdmaking, basketry, silversmithing, and Yuman Bird and Akimal O'Odham song and dance. The crafts and artworks created through these apprenticeships help to revive the community's cultural heritage and are marketed regionally, the income providing support for additional cultural tourism activities.

To support a partnership with Dine Be'iina, Inc., Chinle High School, Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site, Jeddito Sewing Center, Klagetoh Community-Based Partnership and the Navajo Sheep Project for the development of a community cultural plan for an area of the northeastern Navajo Nation. The cultural plan will bring together the diverse resources of the partnership to support traditional and contemporary fiber arts and continue the Navajo sheep culture. Training for fiber artists, technical assistance to Navajo-Churro sheep producers, increased wool processing facilities, and marketing strategies will be integrated into the community plan.

To support a partnership with the Prescott Arts and Humanities Council, Prescott Downtown Partnership, Prescott Coalition for Tourism, Prescott Valley Arts and Cultural Commission and the Arizona Commission on the Arts to develop a visual artist roster project. The partnership will expand upon the Prescott Fine Arts Association's Web site to include a juried database of 50 local visual artists' work. The goal of the project is to identify artists for curated exhibits and commissions, and to facilitate schools' identification of local artists for residencies, apprenticeships and classroom lecture/demonstrations.

The plan's outcomes will include mapping cultural resources, analyzing the economic impact of cultural activities on the local community and on tourism, evaluating cultural activities in school curriculum, and developing partnerships for new community-based programs.

To support a partnership with Long Beach Museum of Art; the National Gallery, London; National Campaign for Museums, United Kingdom; Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum; Gorham Home School District; and North Los Angeles County to connect underserved urban and rural students with museums. Through two workshops for 50 4th and 5th graders, students will have the opportunity to visit museums through the Internet. A CD-ROM and accompanying materials will also be developed.

To support a partnership with the Mother Lode Art Association, Sierra Repertory Theatre, Tuolumne County Economic Development Corporation and the Tuolumne County Planning Commission for the development of a community cultural plan. This plan will address the needs of local artists and arts organizations and the role of the arts in the fast-paced development of this county, which is the northern gateway into Yosemite National Park with nearly 6.3 million tourists per year.

To support a partnership with the Downtown Association, Arts Forum Richmond, Richmond Main Street Project and the Iron Triangle Neighborhood Council to fund a coordinated planning effort to integrate the arts into the design of a public area currently undergoing revitalization. Planning would involve community groups, arts organizations, residents, businesses and city departments. The area includes one of the most diverse, impoverished and violent neighborhoods in the city. The plan will use art to enhance the design of the civic space as well as encourage the development of a performing arts venue.

To support a partnership with the Placer Arts Association, Sierra Symphony, Theatre El Dorado, Friends of the Library/Literacy Action Council and El Dorado Camera Club which will produce ArtsAccess El Dorado County. A four-color brochure and map of cultural sites in El Dorado County providing accessibility information will be developed as well as a series of intuitive Web pages to more widely disseminate the information. The objectives of the initiative are to promote the cultural resources of the county to residents and tourists as part of the state-wide celebration of the arts, led by the California Arts Council.

To support a partnership with Downtown Business Association of Escondido and Downtown Escondido Designated Antiques District to promote the recently designated cultural neighborhood. Second Saturday Escondido is a monthly artwalk through the developing cultural sector which aims to engage artists and businesses to work together, provide free access to arts and culture, and contribute to the economic vitality of a once-declining downtown. The partnership seeks to increase community awareness by improving printed materials, extending their distribution, producing materials in Spanish and expanding outreach efforts to surrounding areas.

To support a partnership with the Nevada County Fair (17th District Agricultural Association) to further develop the Sierra Shakespeare Festival. The Shakespeare Festival is extending its performance schedule from one to two months. A joint marketing effort with the fair is aimed at increasing attendance for both events. The first play of the festival will open in late July, the fair will take place in early August, and the second Shakespearean production will begin in mid-August.

Building on the success of the district's Arts Alive! project in the schools, Arts for All will develop community murals, an annual Arts in the Park presentation/exhibit, and a cross-cultural Native American Story-telling and Cowboy Poetry Reading Festival. Plans also call for incorporating a theater production into the local Blackberry Festival and expanding the community arts Web site.

In addition to increasing ticket sales, the program will create a database of online ticket buyers and cultivate new audiences for San Diego arts organizations.

To support a partnership with the nonprofit City Hotel Corporation to produce the premiere of The Christmas Foundling in the Fallon House Theatre in Columbia State Historic Park. Norman Allen was commissioned to write this story of Gold Rush Columbia, to be presented during the holiday season as an extension of the park's living history activities and displays. Moving out of an economic tradition based on lumbering and mining, Columbia and the surrounding region are very dependent on the cultural tourism generated by the historic park.

To support an ongoing partnership with the Southern Ute Tribe, Northern Ute Tribe and Ute Mountain Ute Tribe to produce the 7th Annual Council Tree Pow Wow and Cultural Festival. In celebration of American Indian songs and dances, the City of Delta and its partners host hundred of dancers and other artists and artisans to share this rich cultural heritage with residents of western Colorado, eastern Utah and visitors from other states and Canada. An educational feature of the festival is the Cultural Centers in which Ute artisans demonstrate and explain the songs, stories and traditions of their nation.

The businesses extend their hours and provide exhibit space for the artwork to offer the community this free cultural event.

The curriculum will provide teachers with visual instructional materials, art production and art criticism activities, and assessment strategies to evaluate student learning.

The partnership will add up to 130 audio clip narrations for readings of current and new definitions, and up to 60 audio samples of terms. The opera will begin marketing the enhanced glossary to educators and public libraries in Georgia, and members of the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta in the fall of 2001.

The theater will provide space for an award-winning local theater group and fine arts children's camp as well as helping extend the reach of cultural activities to area populations currently under-represented in the arts such as the elderly and underprivileged youth.

To support a partnership with the National Black Arts Festival to increase the visibility of Reynoldstown as a destination for cultural tourism and to promote creativity and economic self-sufficiency through the arts. During two residencies, photographer and painter Lynn Marshall-Linnemeier will work with community residents to create art-based products, such as hand-painted message boards based on Reynoldstown themes and women heroes in African American culture. These products will be exhibited and sold at the Wheelbarrow Festival, a three-day local event, and the 2002 National Black Arts Festival, a 10-day event that draws a national audience.

To support an ongoing partnership with Capital City Development Corporation, Downtown Boise Association and the Idaho Commission on the Arts to promote the city's cultural district. The coalition plans to construct and install two information kiosks in downtown Boise to display maps showing the location of various cultural facilities, restaurants and shops. The maps will also be distributed in brochure format, in both English and Spanish, through various venues and by mail.

Through the creation of a working collaborative, the participants seek to increase the number and quality of arts events in the Kooskia/Kamiah communities while attracting larger audiences through joint marketing. Plans for the project include compilation of a comprehensive data base, development and distribution of a cultural events brochure, creation of an Internet marketing presence and coordination of events with various Lewis and Clark Bicentennial groups.

Extremely Physical Theater, and the African American storyteller Diane Ferlatter. Some of the visual arts activities are a Snake River Totem, a teen-oriented Snake Mural and Sandbox Art to encourage young sculptors, and Art Tents housing on print-making and ceramic production.

To support a partnership with the Chicago Public Art Group to create a Griot Circle (in West Africa culture the griot is the village storyteller) in a low-income, largely African America area of Chicago. Local high school students in an after-school program will work with two artists in designing the mosaics for the Griot Circle. The Griot Circle will be an integral part of the area's developing African Village and serve as a venue for community storytelling, celebrating the community's African American heritage, and encouraging inter-generational activities.

To support a partnership with the Haskell Indian Nations University, Lawrence Public Schools, Kentucky Continuing Education, Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center and the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce for a Civic Dialogue Project utilizing Native American arts to bridge the gap between Native and non-Native communities within Lawrence. The goal is to highlight the extraordinary quality of traditional and contemporary American Indian/Alaskan Native artists and use these performances to facilitate better understanding between two diverse cultures. This program is the first of a three-year initiative to create a civic dialogue through the arts.

The center will be located in the heart of the Eastside neighborhood, a densely populated area in the urban core of the city with high crime and unemployment rates. It is hopeful the new center will provide residents with a feeling of ownership and will offer positive activities to the area's residents, both young and old.

To support a partnership with US 23 Cultural Heritage Network, Kentucky Tourism Development Cabinet, Prestonsburg and Paintsville Tourism Commissions, and County Extension Agents to design and produce a multimedia presentation highlighting the arts and cultural attractions of the region. A kiosk will be installed in the Jenny Wiley State Resort Park to provide 24-hour access to computerized information. Videotapes and CDs of the presentation will be made available to schools for heritage education and the presentation will be added to the park's Web site and linked to the state tourism site.

To support a partnership with the Kentucky Folk Art Center, Lake Cumberland State Resort Park and Burnside State Park to preserve and promote the work of Harriette Arnow, Kentucky author and cultural historian. By adapting Ms. Arnow's novel The Dollmaker, for the stage and producing it in conjunction with the Harriette Arnow Summer Series, the college will promote the cultural heritage of the Cumberland Plateau to the tourists visiting Lake Cumberland. The format developed in this project will become a template for other similar design projects across Long Island.

A local professional drama instructor will train community members to perform the play. The oral histories will also be read to school children who will be encouraged to create illustrations for an anthology.

To support a partnership with the Civic Design Center, Vanderbilt University, and University of Tennessee/Knoxville to present Urban Design Forum and Urban Design 101 -- two educational programs whose purpose is to establish a strong, widely shared vision for Nashville and to develop the highest standards for contemporary community design. The Urban Design Forum is a continuing, monthly lecture series on urban design issues with participants from many neighborhoods taking part. Urban Design 101 is a more concentrated continuing education course. Both courses will play an important role in community development and in shaping Nashville's character.

Sue Fletcher, a muralist, will head the effort to involve the community, particularly the young people, in creating an outdoor mural gallery.

Mr. Trevino will design and construct a large, three-dimensional veladora (candleholder) that depicts the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint for many of the city's Mexican American residents, with a rose garden in front of the mural. The west side of San Antonio has long served as the epicenter of Mexican American life and culture, but is plagued a decaying infrastructure. The project is seen as the spark necessary for community renaissance, helping with the west side's economic revitalization, redevelopment and historic preservation.

By involving the people of Brattleboro in all stages of the redevelopment project, the town hopes to gain a beautiful new space and a strengthened community.
